Medicine Chest in a Bottle*

Echinacea has been used for centuries by Native Americans for the treatments of wounds and infections, and as a general cure-all herb. It is a highly researched herb and has a long list of findings to confirm much of its historical use. It has been documented to be an immune stimulant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and have vulnerary (wound healing) properties. Studies have demonstrated that it enhances natural killer cell function and supports macrophage activity in the blood that helps eliminate bodily waste. Historically, it has been used to treat a wide variety of afflictions including, scarlet fever, syphilis, malaria, blood poisoning, and diphtheria.

Today, echinacea is most well known for helping to shorten the duration of the common cold or flu and lessen symptoms such as sore throat, cough, and fever. It is also taken to boost the strength of the immune system and to help fight infections. Echinacea is known to stimulate activity of the cells responsible for fighting infection. The German Commission E report has approved the use of echinacea for the following: common cold, cough/bronchitis/fevers and colds, infections of the urinary tract, inflammation of the mouth and pharynx, tendency to infection, and wounds and burns.
